What Pragati Bharati collects, why it collects it, who can access it, and what choices you have.
This document explains how Pragati Bharati works with your data and what you agree to when you create an account. Read it before you continue.
This policy applies to everyone who uses the Pragati Bharati website and app (the service) as a student, teacher, institution member or administrator. Pragati Bharati decides why and how your personal data is processed. We follow the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and other Indian laws that apply to us. By creating an account you confirm that you have read this policy.
To create an account we collect your mobile phone number and your full name, and the language you were using when you signed up. We send a one-time password (OTP) by SMS to verify the number. If you add them later we also keep your email address, password (stored only as a salted hash, never in readable form), profile picture, exam goal and class or school details. Your phone number is your sign-in identity and is not shown to other students.
We record what you do to teach and measure your preparation: questions you practise, answers you choose, time taken, marks, mock-test and quiz attempts, previous-year-paper and NCERT activity, bookmarks, streaks, progress and mastery by topic, rank and leaderboard position, and the rooms, challenges, batches and assignments you join. This is the core of the service and it is used to build your dashboard, results and recommendations.
The AI Guide and related AI features read your learning data (such as your attempts, weak topics and progress) and, when you type a question, the text you enter. This is sent to AI model providers that process it for us to produce explanations, insights and study recommendations. AI output can be wrong; it is guidance, not a guarantee of marks. Do not type sensitive personal details (such as bank or identity numbers) into AI features. You may stop using AI features at any time; the rest of the service keeps working.
Some tests, especially those set by teachers or institutions, run with exam security enabled. While such a test is open we record what your own browser can observe: when the test tab is hidden or you switch tabs, when the window loses focus, when you leave full-screen mode, whether the connection drops, a regular heartbeat, and the timeline of your answers (viewed, selected, cleared, marked for review, submitted). Repeated violations may produce warnings, be flagged to the teacher or institution, and under a strict policy lock or end the attempt. We cannot see other applications, other devices or your files. The test page shows the rules before you start.
This version of the web app does not turn on your camera or microphone, and we do not record audio, video or photos of you during tests. If a test or a future feature requires camera-based checks (for example, face-presence detection), your browser will ask your permission first and the test page will tell you in advance. You can refuse; in that case you may not be able to take that particular test. Blocking the permission in your browser settings is always respected.
We do not ask for your device location (GPS). Like any website, our servers may see your IP address, which we use for security, fraud prevention and to understand roughly which region traffic comes from.
If you choose a profile picture (JPEG, PNG or WebP) we store the image and show it on your profile and, where relevant, to your teachers, your institution and in rooms or leaderboards. Teachers and institutions may upload question files, spreadsheets (CSV or Excel) of students, and documents for verification; those uploads are used only for the purpose they were uploaded for. The service only reads files you explicitly pick; it does not scan your device.
Purchases and recharges are processed by Razorpay. When you pay, Razorpay collects your card, UPI, net-banking or wallet details on its own secure screen; Pragati Bharati never sees or stores your full card number, UPI PIN or banking passwords. We receive and keep the order, amount, status, reference number and the consent you gave to the purchase terms, to deliver what you bought, issue refunds, handle disputes and meet tax and accounting rules. Payment pages are loaded from Razorpay and are governed by Razorpay's own privacy policy.
We show notifications inside the service (for example room invitations, assignments, results and announcements from your teacher). We do not use browser push notifications, so we do not request that permission. We send OTP and account-security SMS messages to your phone number. Service messages cannot be fully switched off because they are necessary for security and for running your account.
We store a small language cookie so the site opens in your language. Your sign-in session (access tokens) is kept in your browser's local storage so you stay signed in, and a few small preferences are kept in local or session storage (for example the institution seat you chose, a dismissed banner or a language choice made before sign-in). These are strictly needed for the service to work. We do not use advertising cookies and do not sell your data to advertisers. Clearing your browser data signs you out and resets these preferences.
If you join a teacher's batch, room, assignment or test, or an institution adds you to its roster, that teacher or institution can see your name, the attempts and results for what they set, your progress in their batch, and exam-integrity events for their tests. Institution administrators may see reports across the students in their institution. Teachers and institutions are responsible for how they use this data under their own obligations. Do not join groups you do not wish to share with.
In rooms, challenges and leaderboards other participants can see your display name, profile picture, score and rank. Teachers who publish a public profile choose what appears on it. Your phone number, email, payment details and detailed attempt history are not shown to other students.
We share data only with providers that help us run the service and only as much as they need: SMS and message delivery providers, Razorpay for payments, AI model providers for AI features, and cloud hosting, storage, monitoring and email services. They act on our instructions. We may also disclose data when required by law, a court or a government authority, or to protect the rights, safety and security of users and the service. We do not sell your personal data.
We use your data to create and secure your account, deliver practice, tests and results, personalise recommendations, run rooms, batches and leaderboards, process payments, keep exams fair, prevent fraud and abuse, answer support requests, improve the service through aggregated analytics, and comply with law. We rely on your consent, which you give when you create the account, and on what is necessary to provide the service you asked for.
We keep your data while your account is active and for as long as needed afterwards for the purposes above, for example to resolve disputes, keep payment and tax records the law requires, and protect against fraud. When data is no longer needed it is deleted or anonymised.
We use encrypted connections, hashed passwords, access controls and monitoring. No system is perfectly secure; protect your phone and OTPs, never share them and sign out on shared devices. If a breach affects you we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
You can access and correct your details in your profile, change your language, create or change your password, withdraw consent, ask for a copy of your data, ask us to delete your account and data, and nominate someone to act for you, as provided by the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Write to the Grievance Officer to use these rights; we will reply within the time the law allows. Withdrawing consent or deleting your account may stop parts of the service from working, and we may keep what the law requires.
Many of our learners are school students. We do not show targeted advertising to children or track their behaviour for advertising.
Our providers may process data on servers inside or outside India. Where data leaves India we rely on providers that protect it to a comparable standard and on the transfers the law permits.
We may update this policy as the service or the law changes. We will change the date at the top and, for material changes, tell you in the service. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
